Mormon Pioneer Trail from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley

Detail of the route followed by the Mormon pioneers from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake valley. This map is taken from "The Ensign", the official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The trek was taken in two parts. The first movement was undertaken in the winter of 1846 from Nauvoo to Council Bluffs, Iowa, then known as Winter Quarters. The second movement began in the spring of 1847 from Winter Quarters to the Salt Lake Valley.

The map below is in two sections. The top map depicts the trail from Nauvoo to Winter Quarters and then from Winter Quarters to just before Ash Hollow, Nebraska. The bottom map depicts the trail from Ash Hollow, Nebraska to the Salt Lake Valley.
